Time for a sea change, in fact a country change.  We are looking at relocating to New Zealand where we have visited every year since our first trip there in 2007/2008.  Our subsequent trips have seen us explore every part of New Zealand and we now think we would like to live there.  Whilst at the moment we think Christchurch is the place, rather than committing to renting a property and finding we don’t like it, we have decided to house sit.  This will give us a chance to live like a local and explore different areas before making any final decision.  Who knows, we may like the nomadic lifestyle so much we continue to house sit for ever!!

We signed up to kiwihousesitters a couple of years ago but only in February 2016 did we become serious about our profile and actively pursuing assignments.  Andrew connected with a friend in Melbourne (thanks Becc) who housesits with her partner and she gave us some great tips about the housesitting lifestyle.  We put some effort into our profile to give us the best chance of securing a housesit, including getting some references from friends and compiling a photo gallery of our adventures to date.

How exciting – we have secured our first house sit.  We’ll be looking after Rocket (a golden retriever) in Palmerston North which is located towards the bottom of the North Island, New Zealand.  We had a skype call with Rocket’s owners, Dennis and Brenda after we responded to their ad on kiwihousesitters.  We chatted for about an hour and then they offered us the gig.  We have flights booked to Christchurch on May 11th and our assignment in Palmerston North isn’t until mid-July so we are now looking for additional sits.
