Our next adventure is Sri Lanka. We depart tomorrow, January 1 bound for Colombo via Singapore. We arrive in Colombo and have a transfer to Negombo where we have a few days by ourselves before our tour starts on January 4th. Our 15 day tour circles Sri Lanka (see map) and we are once again travelling with Intrepid Travel. This will be our 5th Intrepid tour having previously travelled with them in Egypt, Morocco and India (North and South). Our tour is fully booked so we are looking forward to meeting our travelling companions. No doubt there will be some other Aussies (there always is) as well as some teachers as it is the time of year for them to travel.
According to the Intrepid Travel website:
A jewel in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is jam-packed with ancient sites, fascinating culture, beautiful wilderness and idyllic beaches. From ancient Anuradhapura city and the well-preserved Polonnaruwa ruins, to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the impressive Sigiriya rock fortress, Sri Lankan culture spans more than 2,000 years and still remains vibrant and alive today. Trek through lush tea plantations, indulge in seafood feasts in quaint fishing villages and dip your toes in the calm, clear waters of Mirissa beach on this all-encompassing adventure for those seeking a unique travel experience.
Highlights include
- Bliss out beachside in Mirissa
- Learn the secrets of Sri Lankan cuisine in Bandarawela
- Shop up a storm in Colombo
- Walk the ramparts of Galle
- Visit the sacred Bo Tree in Anuradhapura
- Feast on fresh seafood on Negombo beach
- Work up a sweat trekking to Sigiriya rock
- Cycle through the ancient Polonnaruwa ruins
We love to hear from you all so feel free to add comments as we go. With the amount of technology we are taking, we are hoping to be able to keep our blog up to date every few days. Following our tour in Sri Lanka we make our way home via Singapore where we will spend three days before arriving back in Australia on January 22.
Happy travels Andrew! My Dad always told stories if his time in Kandy during WWII and how incredibly beautiful it is. I haven’t managed to get there yet but you’ll be walking his steps for me. Go well.
